in TSN’s Chevrolet Traverse Million Dollar Shootout Contest
Four lucky hockey fans, including 56-year-old Rick Abbott, guaranteed themselves a memorable New Year, as they each took home a brand new 2009 Chevrolet Traverse Crossover as part of the third annual, international award-winning million-dollar giveaway, the Chevrolet Traverse Million Dollar Shootout. The event was televised live nationally on TSN during the first intermission of the 2009 IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP round-robin game featuring Canada vs. USA.
Rick, a resident of Quesnel, B.C., was joined by two shooters – son Derek Abbott, 21, and longtime family friend Owen Kirby, 23 – at centre ice, where they each had 15 seconds to shoot 10 pucks into an open net. Their combined 18 goals scored were enough for the trio, plus a randomly selected World Juniors tournament attendee, to each win a Chevrolet Traverse Crossover, for a total of four vehicles given away.
Rick also had the chance to shoot for $1 million. He scored 13 goals into an open net from the far blue line in 24 seconds and hit two posts, falling just two short of the required 15 goals to win the $1 million prize in a one-time payout.
